The Materiality of Absence in Fragments of a Body in the Process of Becoming Other
The Materiality of Absence revisits Fragments of a Body in the Process of Becoming Other, which explored the perpetual transformation of the Saos-2 cell line. During an exhibition, panels from the original work were damaged; these have now been replaced with blank slides. In the intact slides, the latex and cell impressions have been removed, leaving behind only traces of adhesive. This alteration emphasises the idea that everything that precedes leaves physical remnants, shaping new potentials and influencing future outcomes. The work invites contemplation on the presence embedded in absence and how past elements persist as subtle marks that inform and catalyse future evolutions.
This work forms part of The Absence of Alice series.
