Fragments of a Body in the Process of Becoming Other
Fragments of a Body in the Process of Becoming Other consists of a series of casts made from liquid latex incorporating cell palettes of Saos-2 cells collected over a period of six months at The Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation [IHBI] at the Queensland University of Technology [QUT]. The latex casts are displayed on a series of Perspex sheets in an order relating to the passage number of the cells.
This work delves into the process of transformation, emphasising that bodies—whether biological or conceptual—are never static but constantly shifting in response to internal and external influences. By presenting a panel of fragmented organic forms, the piece reflects on the perpetual state of becoming, where each part holds traces of its origin yet signals the potential for change and the emergence of something entirely new. This installation invites viewers to contemplate the fluid boundaries between self and other, and the continual evolution inherent in all living and imagined forms.
This work forms part of The Absence of Alice series.
