Mother and Daughter

Mother and Daughter is a sculptural work that reflects on themes of evolution, transformation, and the generative relationship between forms. As part of an ongoing series of panel works integrating Saos-2 cells, this piece reflects on the dynamic process of creation, growth, and metamorphosis. The title, Mother and Daughter, suggests an intimate link between two entities—one giving rise to the other—symbolising continuity and change across generations, both human and cellular.

Through its sculptural forms, the work invites viewers to consider the ways in which entities evolve in response to their origins, yet adapt and transform into something distinctly new. This exploration of lineage and transformation captures both the biological and metaphorical aspects of evolution, emphasising how each form carries within it a history while also forging a unique, independent path. Mother and Daughter speaks to the inevitable interplay of inheritance and individuality, prompting reflection on the fluid boundaries between self and other, past and future, in the shaping of identity.

The work forms part of The Absence of Alice.
