Divisions from the Ancient of Days
Divisions from the Ancient of Days by Svenja Kratz reinterprets William Blake’s iconic work The Ancient of Days, which depicts a god-like figure defining the Earth. Kratz’s version simplifies and fragments the image, using laser-cut outlines and mirrors to disrupt Blake’s original sense of divine control. By replacing the grandeur of Blake’s vision with pared-down, fractured forms, the work challenges human-centered narratives of creation. Instead, it highlights the chaotic, interconnected processes of life at a cellular level, proposing a view of existence that rejects hierarchical origins in favor of a dynamic, decentralised, and evolving universe.
