All That We Leave Behind

All That We Leave Behind is a series of photo-media works by Svenja Kratz that explores themes of identity, place, belonging, and disconnection. Composed of digital photographs integrating digital scans of the artist’s body and family photographs, the series reflects on personal histories and the connections between ancestors and place that are often disrupted by migration. Kratz's work comments that all experiences, even those from which we are physically disconnected, remain imprinted on the body, influencing our sense of self in unseen ways.

Through layered visuals, All That We Leave Behind delves into the emotional complexities of severed ties, suggesting that memories and past connections continue to shape and inhabit us, even in their absence. This subtle interweaving of presence and loss underscores the enduring impact of movement and displacement on one’s embodied experience of identity and belonging.
